Former Michigan Lawmaker Todd Courser Pleaded No Contest After Sex Scandal

Former Michigan lawmaker Todd Courser pleaded no contest in court Wednesday.

Courser was charged with willful neglect of duty by a public officer after trying to keep his extramarital affair with another state lawmaker a secret.

The plea means he does not admit guilt but accepts the punishment. He could serve up to a year in jail.

Courser resigned in 2015 after the scandal came to light.

He asked an aide to send a bogus e-mail to fellow Republicans to try and discredit rumors he was having an affair with State Representative Cindy Gamrat.
