Michigan’s Effort to Cut Jail Population: Task Force Visits Traverse City
A state panel will meet in Traverse City today to hear from experts and the public about ways to cut Michigan’s jail population.
It’s one of several stops across the state for the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration.
Lieutenant Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and State Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mccormack make up the task force co-chairs.
They’re looking into factors affecting jail populations to find ways to reduce incarceration rates while still keeping the public safe.
