Coast Guard Sets Up Safety Zone for TC Ironman Triathlon

The Coast Guard is setting up a safety zone for the Traverse City Ironman Triathlon to keep participants and those traveling in the area safe.

The Ironman Triathlon is this Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the Traverse City area.

If you live, work, or will be traveling near the routes, you will have to find an alternate way.

The swimming portion of the race will take place in the southern part of West Grand Traverse Bay in front of Clinch Park. The Coast Guard will be making a safety zone for the swimmers.

The Duncan Clinch Marina will be closed between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The safety zone means no boats can be in this area.

And here are the routes the tri-athletes will take for the race.

The route for the bicycling portion takes riders west to east and back from Traverse City through the southern part of the Leelanau Peninsula.

The athletes then switch to running from Front Street to the southern portion of Boardman Lake and back.

Finally, the swimming portion will happen in front of Clinch Park in West Bay.
