Otsego County Trail Extension Project Opens

After two years of planning and developing, Otsego County is excited to open up their newly completed Iron Belle Trail extension.

The trail opened up last month.

It’s a 13 mile stretch from the south end of Otsego County to the north.

It’s part of a larger state wide trail system that connects Belle Isle to the Upper Peninsula.

The project costs nearly $3 million.

The Otsego County Administrator says it wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of the county, local townships, the DNR and MDOT.

“I see users on that trail every single day and frankly when I was coming back from lunch, I pass some in my way back to work so it really is a testament to how excited the community is not only for residents but for tourists who come to our area,” said Rachel Frisch, the Otsego County administrator.

You can access the trail from Fairview Road in Gaylord.
