Suttons Bay Lunch Balances Paid-Off by Local Business

Some students and parents in one northern Michigan school district are getting some relief, thanks to a local business.

The Mitten Brewing Company in Northport wanted to do something to help the community. One of their bartenders works as a substitute teacher, and noticed there were a lot of unpaid balances for the school lunch program in the Suttons Bay Schools.

So through the Mitten Foundation, the business paid off the $2,700 in unpaid lunches, cleaning the plate for the new school year

Dan Frank is the Mitten’s Taproom Manager. “We had our biggest summer on record and we wanted to do something to give back to the community for supporting us like this, and this just seemed to be the most perfect thing to do.”

It’s not the first donation for Mitten Brewing, which has been in business in Northport for three years. In the past they’ve also donated to the baby pantry at Leelanau Christian Neighbors. They say making the donations will be a regular part of doing business.
