Michigan DNR Confirms Upper Peninsula Cougar Report

The Michigan DNR has confirmed the state’s 39th cougar report since 2008.

The DNR says the mountain lion was caught on camera in the daylight hours of July 7 northwest of Ironwood in the far western portion of the Upper Peninsula.

The cougar was caught on a landowner’s trail camera in Gogebic County.

A DNR wildlife biologist visited the location and the photo was verified by the DNR’s cougar team.

The DNR has confirmed 39 cougar reports since 2008, with all but one occurring in the Upper Peninsula.

The DNR says this could include multiple sightings of the same cougar, not necessarily 39 individual animals.
