Deputies Arrest Leland Man for Driving Boat While Drunk

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after they say he crashed a pontoon boat.

It happened near Tamarack Lane in Leland Township Tuesday evening.

When deputies arrived they found a Leland man asleep on a pontoon that had crashed into a private dock.

Next to the man was an open bottle of vodka.

Witnesses say they saw the boat veering, then hit the dock.

After that, they say the driver laid down and fell asleep.

The sheriff’s office says the man had a dangerously high blood alcohol level.

He was taken to Munson Hospital for treatment before he was arrested for driving the boat while drunk.
