Cadillac Area Backpack Program Gets Grant to Help Feed Local Students

With a grant, a local backpack program will be able to feed more students in the Cadillac area.

The Farm Bureau Agents of Michigan granted the Cadillac Area Backpack Program $2,500.

That’s enough to feed about 25 kids.

This program gives students who are at risk of food insecurity a backpack filled with food every weekend during the school year.

Nearly 70% of students in the Cadillac area qualify for this program, which is why the director says it’s so important.

“It just shows that our community is constantly thinking about us and ways that they can give back to the community and I was just overjoyed to receive this amount of money and we’ll be able to use it in a great way to feed these kids,” said Karen McMahon, the Director of Cadillac Area Backpack Program.

Last year the Cadillac Area Backpack Program fed around 460 students a week.
