Expungement Clinic Stops in Kalkaska, Otsego Counties

Some people could be getting a second chance, thanks to an expungement clinic held by University of Detroit Mercy law students in Kalkaska County Thursday.

With help from volunteers, including local judges and lawyers, people were able to learn more about expungement and even start the process, which allows people to clear their criminal records.

To qualify a person cannot have more than two misdemeanors and one felony, and the offenses have to be at least five years old.

Crimes like sexual assault or violent offenses do not qualify for expungement.

Thursday’s expungement clinic runs until 4 p.m.

It will then be in Otsego County Friday from noon until 4 p.m.
