Mancelona Homeowners Can Apply for Money for Home Upgrades Thanks to State Funding

Neighborhoods in the village of Mancelona are about to start looking a lot nicer!

The village got $30,000 from the state for the Neighborhood Enhancement Program, aimed at beautifying and upgrading the look and feel of local homes.

Now, people in Mancelona can apply for that money for exterior upgrades.

It can go towards painting, exterior siding, roofing improvements and other outside upgrades.

You can apply if you are a homeowner in the village of Mancelona, have insurance and meet certain income requirements.

Homeowner Shauna Perault says she has a wish list of things she would use the money for.

“I’d definitely update the fence. With a nicer gate so the kids can get in and out,” said Perault. “The roof needs to be done, I’d finish casing out these windows.”

Grant coordinator Elise Crafts says that any homeowner can apply and ask for up to $7,500 in upgrades. The application will ask them what kinds of improvements they would like to make.

She hopes this state grant will encourage more funders to consider donating and investing in Mancelona in the future.

“We’re hoping to leverage this to attract more dollars and show that this program is successful in the village,” said Crafts.

Applications are available in the Village of Mancelona office.

They are due by August 12.

Crafts says she wants projects completed by November.
