Kids Fishing Day Brings Sault Ste. Marie Community Together

“It’s definitely bittersweet, but we are so happy to see all the kids and the community come together to spend at least one day with their child.”

Meaningful words from a mother who lost her child one day after he was born.

Connor Gorsuch passed away in January of 2003.

Since then, the Sault Ste. Marie community remembers him each summer with a kids fishing day.

The Connor Gorsuch Event took place today at the children’s fishing pond in Rotary Park.

Hundreds of kids used live bait to catch one of the many trout in the pond.

Along with the fishing, there were also prizes for the biggest catch.

Cameran McGowan, a local teenage angler, attended this event for the first time today.

“This is a great idea. It’s all awesome. Like this is a great place to do it. I love fishing here too” said the 13-year-old from Pickford.

The fishing day has been bringing together the community for the last 17 years.

Organizers expect it to continue for years to come.
