Diesel Spill Sheen Moves Southeast on Lake Charlevoix
The U.S. Coast Guard says it’s monitoring a diesel spill on Lake Charlevoix.
Coast Guard Sector Sault Sainte Marie received reports of the spill on the south arm of the lake around 5 Thursday evening.
They say the sheen extends from the Ironton Ferry crossing to the end of Holy Island and is moving in a southeasterly direction.
The coast guard and Environmental Protection Agency says none of the fuel can be recovered and they expect it to evaporate.
The Charlevoix County Health Department does not expect any public health concerns.
If you have any information on where the spill came from, call the Coast Guard sector command center.
