Contractors in Grand Traverse County Upgrade Home of Domestic Abuse Survivor

A domestic abuse survivor has a new home, thanks to a generous group of Grand Traverse contractors who rebuilt the house free of charge.

It all started when a concerned member of the community called businesses to see if they could help a single mother with two young children. She was a survivor or violence in the home, and needed basic materials.

The family did not have glass on their windows and had to use blankets to cover them. There were no doors or proper furniture either.

By the Bay Glass in Traverse City says they were approached to help the family, and they installed windows and doors free of charge.

“It was one of those things that grabbed a hold of me and I really wanted to help out with that,” said By the Bay Glass vice president Doug Price.  “They now have windows, they now have specific furniture, they now have specific appliances and cabinetry that was damaged during all of the violence.”

Price says the woman and her two children are now safe in their new home.
