Puerto Rico Protestors Cheer After Governor Concedes to Step Down

Puerto Rico’s governor is stepping down following nearly two weeks of protests.

It comes amid a growing political and personal scandal.

A crowd of demonstrators erupted with cheers after Ricardo Rossello announced plans to resign.

The news came just before midnight last night.

Thousands of people have been calling for Rossello to resign after the FBI arrested two former aides to the governor on charges involving the misuse of more than $15 million in federal funding.

Shortly after their arrest hundreds of pages of a group chat involving Rossello were leaked.

They included profane, homophobic and sexist comments about political opponents and celebrities.

Rossello will officially step down on August 2.

Secretary of Justice Wanda Vazquez will take his place.
