President Trump Vetos Congress’ Ban of Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia

President Trump has vetoed three bipartisan bills banning arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The resolutions would have blocked licensing for certain arms sales in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, France, Spain and Italy.

In a letter to senators, President Trump argued such a move would negatively affect relationships with those countries.

The resolutions were considered to be a symbolic show of opposition among lawmakers to the Trump administration’s relationship with Saudi Arabia following the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year.
