Man Shoots, Kills Escaped Alligator in Southeast Michigan

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s office says a man shot and killed an alligator in Dayton Township after it escaped from an exotic animal rescue.

It happened Saturday 65 miles north of Detroit.

The sheriff’s office says the man was collecting minnows on his rural property, likely startling the 5 to six-foot long alligator.

The Associated Press reports the man heard a hissing sound, shooting the alligator with a pistol after it lunged at him.

The sheriff’s office says it had escaped from an enclosure nearby. The exotic animal rescue also houses two other alligators, snakes tortoises, turtles and emus.
