Lawyers Seek Leniency for Man Who Mailed Pipe Bombs to Politicians, Journalists

Attorneys for the man who admitted to mailing bombs to high-profile U.S. politicians are now asking for a lenient sentence.

Cesar Sayoc pleaded guilty to 65 felony counts back in March including use of weapons of mass destruction.

Prosecutors say he mailed 16 bombs to prominent Democratic politicians and journalists last year.

He could face up to life in prison.

But his lawyers are now asking the judge to sentence him to the minimum under the guidelines, which is 10 years and one month.

Their request cites Sayoc’s excessive steroid use, which they say increased his anxiety and paranoia.

They also cited his infatuation with President Trump.

Sayoc is set to be sentenced in mid-September.
