Crews Continue Searching Lake Michigan for Missing Swimmer

Crews are back searching Lake Michigan for a missing swimmer.

According to the Mason County sheriff, Daniel McCarthy of Baldwin was one of eight people swept out into Lake Michigan Monday afternoon.

Seven of them were brought in and accounted for, but Daniel was last seen about 150 yards out in the lake.

It’s been more than 20 hours since police say 18-year-old Daniel McCarthy of Baldwin went missing while swimming near the mouth of the Big Sable River near Ludington State Park.

Crews searched until about midnight marking possible underwater hits with side scan sonar.

Now crews will check on those markers in the sunlight to see if they are possibly Daniel.

The sheriff says there are also crews walking the beach, all the way from Ludington up past the state park.

The wind has picked up a bit since Monday night but the lake is still in good condition to search.

Sheriff Cole says they will be out searching for as long as necessary to recover Daniel for his family.
