Baldwin Community Remains Hopeful Amid Search for Daniel McCarthy
People in Daniel’s hometown of Baldwin did not give up hope he would be found alive.
A constant smile, a hard worker, and an exceptional athlete who overcame his fair share of adversity.
Daniel McCarthy had a bright and promising future ahead of him, according to Baldwin Promise Zone Coordinator Duane Roberts Jr.
“Daniel persevered. He worked. He had fun. And most of all, you can tell that he was a very friendly person with everyone he interacted with,” said Roberts Jr.
Daniel had a passion for sports and was part of the school’s basketball and football teams. He even helped bring a district title in football back to Baldwin.
“On the football field he’s a hard worker. He was one of the smallest guys stature wise and weight, but he would always put forth the most effort on the football field. Anytime you see him in the community, he’s smiling, he’s having fun, he likes to stay active, sports, football, basketball,” said Roberts Jr.
Baldwin superintendent Rick Heitmeyer says Daniel was easily one of the most well liked students in the school.
The community: still held onto hope this morning that Daniel would be found.
“He was a hard working student, someone who everyone enjoyed being around, participated in athletics, was in the building trades program at the career tech center. Just the kind of kid everyone liked to be around and always had a smile on his face,” said Heitmeyer.
