Two More Arrested in Connection to Stolen Silver, Platinum Bars

We have an update in the case of stolen silver and platinum bars we first told you about in May.

State police say two more people have now been arrested.

In started in May when Scott McDaniel was pulled over on Mitchell Street in Cadillac and was found with a gram of suspected meth and thousands of dollars in silver and platinum bars.

Troopers say they were stolen from a home in Mesick and used to buy cars in LeRoy.

Troopers then found 34 palladium bars (previously thought to be platinum) in the backyard of a home in LeRoy.

Now they say Martin Apsey was the one who buried those bars in his backyard.

The bars were worth much more than platinum, at about $46,000.

They also found Mary Huggins sold some platinum bars to a local jeweler for more than $2,000. Troopers say they found evidence Huggins also stole the metal bars from the same residence in Mesick, but the theft was unrelated to McDaniel’s.

Huggins faces a larceny charge, and Apsey faces a stolen property charge.
