Hundreds of Dollars in Cans Stolen from Sault High School Pom Girls

“We’ve got music going when we are returning cans, we’re dancing around when doing a car wash.  I mean, yeah, we make it fun.”

This group of Poms will not let thieves ruin their dream of heading to a regional competition in Chicago.

The Sault High Poms in Sault Ste. Marie have been collecting returnables, as part of their fundraising efforts to pay for the trip.

But someone stole them; all of them.

Last Tuesday, 25 large bags of returnables, valued at a couple hundred dollars, were stolen from a garage on John Street in Sault Ste Marie.

It’s from one of many fundraisers to reach their goal of $4,500.

After a Facebook post, many who don’t even know the girls are now donating cans and money to help them.

“The community has been very supportive.  Even the outside communities, and not just Sault Ste. Marie, but other areas as well.  A lot of people have been reaching out donating and sharing our story, too, which has been awesome,” says Pom mother Jodi Rath.

Police are investigating the can theft.

You can send any checks to Sault High Poms at 143 Arlington Street, Sault Ste. Marie MI, 49783, or drop cans off at 1005 Bingham in the Soo.
