Traverse Symphony Orchestra Names New Director
From the trombone section to the executive director’s seat, one musician is taking over as director of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Kendrik Merwin is no stranger to the orchestra.
He has been playing with the orchestra since 2009.
The new hire comes a little over a year since the previous director resigned.
For the last 10 years Dr. Merwin has served as the music director at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
The staff at the Traverse Symphony Orchestra is excited about the future under Dr. Merwin’s leadership.
“We’re excited about a new direction and a new focus for our organization. We’re again looking towards being more collaberative in the community. And to really be a focus and a cultural asset for Northern Michigan,” says the director of development for TSO, Gary Gatzke.
Dr. Merwin will take his place as executive director on September 1.
