BATA Starts new Leelanau County Route Monday

A new line through the Bay Area Transportation Authority aims to connect Leelanau County.

Starting Monday, July 15, BATA will start running the Leelanau Loop route three times a day.

The route makes stops in Suttons bay, Peshawbestown, Omena, Northport, Leland and Lake Leelanau.

The bus will start running early in the morning around 7:50 and end around 2:40 in the afternoon.

“We’re really excited to bring fixed route service to Leelanau,” said BATA’s transportation planner Tyler Bevier. “There will be connections into Traverse City through Suttons Bay.”

The Leelanau Loop starts Monday and will run on a trial basis for the next full year.

The route is all part of BATA’s new Leelanau Next program to expand services in the area.

The program also has door to door link services available 5-midnight during the weeknights in the summer months.
