Soo Locks Tonnage Record Broken
A new Soo Lock tonnage record has been broken as water levels continue to rise.
This Monday, the 1,000 foot-long American Integrity freighter carried more than 76,000 tons of iron ore.
That load broke a record set only a few hours earlier by the Walter J. McCarthy Jr., and that vessel broke a record the Integrity set back in 2017.
Some of the Great Lakes water levels are more than a foot above average.
The high water levels allow freighters to carry more cargo.
