2020 Census Battle: Citizenship Question
The legal battle over adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census continues.
A federal judge has ruled the Department of Justice cannot swap its legal team in the case.
The DOJ was hoping to bring on a new legal team to handle the case, but New York Judge Jesse Furman says the department didn’t have a good enough reason to make the change.
He added that the move would only slow the process down.
It’s a surprising ruling, considering changing legal teams in civil cases is almost always allowed.
President Trump is still considering an executive order to force the citizenship question onto the census.
