Federal Government to Oversee Transactions for Petoskey’s Bay View Association
An Emmet County resort community made a deal with the federal government.
The Department of Justice ordered Bay View Association in Petoskey to stop considering religion in its application process.
Bay View has been the target of lawsuits and criticism over so-called religious requirements for years.
Community members sued Bay View in 2017 for its policy requiring homeowners to be of “Christian persuasion.”
In a deal announced Tuesday, the federal government will now oversee housing transactions in Bay View for the next five years.
And bay view will be required to report on its processing of applications to join the community.
