Grand Traverse Co. Sheriff’s Office Continue Looking for Deadly Hit-And-Run Suspect

A hit and run driver is still on the loose.

Police say the driver hit and killed a 71-year-old man in this area near Traverse City this weekend.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was trying to cross the road when someone hit him.

He died from his injuries Sunday.

The hit and run happened Saturday night on U.S. 31 north near Four Mile Road in East Bay Township, almost a quarter mile from the nearest crosswalk.

Deputies say after the crash, the driver pulled into a parking lot and was confronted by a group of people.

And then ran off, leaving the vehicle behind.

The sheriff’s office says its working on search warrants and following up with witnesses.

“They’re not only following up, doing canvassing the area where the crash occurred, search warrants on the vehicle. They are also following up with anyone that might have called central dispatch with the information of the crash. All of our resources within the detective bureau are being deployed on this case,” says Grand Traverse County Captain Chris Clark.
