5 Northern Michigan Counties Now Considered Federal Disaster Areas

Five Northern Michigan counties are now considered Federal Disaster Areas.

It’s because of the heavy rains and high winds over the past year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Antrim, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska. Leelanau and Otsego counties for the designation.

It will open up emergency loans to help with recovery needs like replacing equipment or livestock.

The application deadline is Feb. 25, 2020.

We’ve posted more information on the resources here.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer also signed a bill making $15 million in loans available to farmers hurt by the damage.
