National Cherry Festival in Review

While there’s still plenty to see and enjoy at the 93rd National Cherry Festival, we are nearing its end.

But it’s a week visitors, vendors and volunteers will never forget!!

“It’s been a lot of fun, it’s been busy.”

For volunteers like Abbey Kaufman, this week is the culmination of a year’s worth of work – and it’s all worth it.

“I think my favorite part so far has been seeing the kids kind of embrace this role and then to see them during the parade just waving as hard as they can with just huge smiles. They’ve gone from these shy little kids to these leaders in our community,” explained Abbey, the event director of the Prince and Princess Program.

New to the festival this year is the Bees Knees Grill and they say business is buzzing.

“Yeah, it’s been really busy, but not overwhelming. It’s been perfect, just like steady all day, exactly as we want it to be!” said Lauren Adams, Bees Knees Grill co-owner.

Visitors like the Gessner family are soaking in every aspect of what the festival has to offer.

“Today we’re here for some Cherry Fest fun, we checked out the air dogs,” said John.

They come back every year and appreciate the work that goes into improving the festival each year.

“The addition of the crosswalks is really nice,” John told us. “Having the crosswalk over by the Warehouse District, we were able to park on that side of town where it’s less busy and still have a nice, safe cross across the street.”

Of course, the festival is not over yet! Don’t miss the DTE Foundation Cherry Royale Parade on Saturday!
