Kelly Boyce-Hurlbert Hit-And-Run Case Remains Unsolved Six Years Later
Six years and still no answers in the hit-and-run death of this Traverse City woman.
Kelly Boyce-Hurlbert was killed while riding her bike on the night of July 5th 2013.
It happened near the intersection of Washington and Railroad Streets in Traverse City.
She was dragged for more than a block and later died at the hospital.
The Grand Traverse County Prosecutor did a month long review of Kelly’s case last year, but still no answers.
Ty Schmidt knew Kelly Boyce-Hurlbert and lived near her in Traverse City. He still remembers when he found out what happened to her.
“Shocked, sad, very personal, angry, in a small town like Traverse City. I knew Kelly, I knew her husband Pauley and just hit really close to home,” said Schmidt.
Traverse City Police are still taking tips on Kelly’s hit-and-run death. They’ve had more than 800 come in. Some of them, being looked at with new technology.
“Every day the technology is better, and we utilize the technology and the advancement in the technology to help our investigation continue, just as many other cold case have been solved, due to the time and the technical advancement we’re using that as well,” said D/Sgt. Matt Richmond.
The statute of limitations is running out on some potential charges, but others could remain options for several more years.
“It’s just someone having the information that they know what happened. It can be weather they were involved, or someone’s told them that they were involved, but it’s someone out knows information that will lead to this case being solved,” said Richmond.
Six years later, that’s all those who knew Kelly, are asking for.
“I hope this person can be brought to justice, and hope that we can continue to keep our eyes and ears open and I think it just takes one tip. I know the law enforcement have been working their tails off following all sorts of leads and I hope that we’ll all do the right thing and bring this person to justice,” said Schmidt.
