Case Dismissed: Pregnant Woman Accused of Manslaughter

An Alabama woman facing criminal charges after a shooting caused her to have a miscarriage will not be prosecuted.

The shooting happened last December while Marshae Jones was five months pregnant.

Jones was unarmed when she started to fight with another woman, Ebony Jemison, in a parking lot.

Jemison shot Jones in the stomach, killing her baby.

A grand jury alleged Jones was responsible for starting the fight, putting her baby in danger and handed down an indictment of manslaughter.

The district attorney dismissed the case Wednesday.

Jones’ arrest sparked outrage around the nation, with many woman’s rights advocates saying this could be a look at what’s to come in Alabama.-

The state passed the most restrictive abortion bill in the nation in May.
