Meet the Candidates Running for National Cherry Queen
Throughout the week the National Cherry Queen and her court are immersed in every aspect of the National Cherry Festival as secret judges decide who should be the next National Cherry Queen.
Now we’re introducing you to this year’s candidates: Kennan Dawson, Sierra Moore, Nikki Schweitzer and Karissa Buell.
One of these four ladies will be crowned queen this Friday.
Sierra’s an active young woman, just happy to be here!
“It’s just really gotten me excited to want to represent TC and be more involved in my community and do more for everyone,” Sierra Moore said.
Nikki is no stranger to the National Cherry Festival.
“I have volunteered with the festival for years and growing up in the area um I just knew that I wanted to help represent this beautiful city and this amazing festival and all of the people that help make it a possibility,” Schweitzer said.
Kennan’s looking for another chance to represent a community she loves.
“Back in 2016 I was actually Miss Bellaire. I was around the Cherry Queen a lot and I loved the cherry industry, Traverse City, everything about it, and what she stood for,” Kennan Dawson said.
And Karissa says she’s pleasantly surprised with the new friendships she’s walking away with, no matter what happens.
“We just have really bonded together so, getting to know the girls, getting to know Queen Grace, learning more about the queens committee program in general,” Karissa Buell said.
And Queen Grace has one piece of advice for the next queen.
“Just to soak it all in and to embrace the crazy because it’s a crazy year but it’s all worth it,” National Cherry Queen, Grace Boyles said.
Again the new queen will be crowned this Friday. You can catch her at the Cherry Royale Parade on Saturday!
