BATA, LYFT Partner Up to Offer Free Rides in Traverse City

The Bay Area Transportation Authority and Lyft are partnering up to offer a special service in Traverse City.

The two transportation companies are piloting a 12 month service to help people get around, then get home safely.

Eric Lingaur, Communications & Development Director for BATA, says, “We want to help people get to and from their destinations, and so whatever transportation option works for them, hopefully they can all work together to meet that goal.”

Linguar says BATA’s free rides on the Bayline route from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. accomplish only part of that goal.

“It’s only really that small portion of the day that we’re trying to provide transportation for, and that’s what the Lyft pilot partnership comes into play,” he says.

You can now get a free Lyft ride from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week, courtesy of BATA and exclusively for people using the new Bayline route.

Linguar says, “Because what it really boils down to is BATA wants to see if there are people interested in utilizing transportation after 11 o’clock in the Traverse City area.”

All you need is a special code, which you enter when you request a ride in the Lyft app. The code is listed on all of the Bayline vehicles and is good for anywhere along the Bayline route.

BATA and the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority hope this partnership will get everyone a safe ride home.

Colleen Paveglio, Marketing & Communications Director for DDA, says, “We have so many employees in downtown Traverse City that work in restaurants and they’re working late at night, but it really didn’t offer an opportunity for them to utilize the Bayline. So with this Lyft partnership, the fact that it’s free and it’s 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., that opens up the opportunity for so many employees to take advantage of this.”
