Hook and Hunting: Best Lakes for Bass Fishing

Bassmaster Magazine announced the best lakes for fishing bass in the region and it turns out Michigan is pretty popular.

Six Michigan lakes make the top ten list of best lakes for bass lakes in the Northeastern United States.

Lake St. Clair, Burt and Mullet lakes, Bays De Noc, Saginaw Bay, Lake Charlevoix, and Grand Traverse Bay all made the top ten list.

One local charter fisherman says it’s important we keep it that way.

“This time of year they’re on beds, they’re starting to spawn and really keeping those fish off the nest for a long period of time can result in us not having a fishery like we have so it’s take and continue to have it for years on end,” said Ron Dohm Jr. of Sport Fish Michigan.

Experts say Michigan’s clear waters and the common practice of catch and release play a big role in why bass fishing is doing so well.
