Michigan Anti-Abortion Groups Need 340K Signatures for 2nd Trimester Abortion Ban

Michigan anti-abortion groups have launched their ballot drive to restrict a common second trimester abortion practice.

The volunteers from Rights to Life say the dilation and evacuation procedure is “barbaric”.

If the organization collects 340,000 signatures in six months, the Republican controlled legislature could put the ban in place.

This could be done without Governor Whitmer’s approval.

It does include an exception if a woman’s life is in danger.

The procedure was used in just over 1,900 abortions in Michigan last year, around 7% of the total abortions in the state.

Opponents say this handcuff doctor’s ability to provide safe care to patients.
