A Mexican man with a history of sex crimes against children was arrested here in Northern Michigan after a traffic stop.

State police say they stopped the man Tuesday afternoon on US-131 near Cadillac.

He had two children in his car.

He claimed he was from Texas, but said he had lost his wallet so police used a mobile fingerprint scanner to identify him.

Troopers say he was identified as a Mexican citizen who had previously been deported for child sex crimes.

He also had a warrant out for his arrest in Texas for sexual assault charges and was wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ICE took custody of the man.

The children were turned over to his wife, who was in another vehicle when he was arrested.
