U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Arrive in Traverse City for The National Cherry Festival

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds arrived in Traverse City on Monday for the National Cherry Festival.

They arrived at Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City Monday morning and traveled from a show in Dayton, Ohio.

The team will now spend the next week in northern Michigan.

They have a couple days off before they start getting ready for their big shows.

They’ll do practice runs later this week and the air shows are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

“The F-16 is a super fun jet to fly. It’s super-fast, super maneuverable, we get to fly it very fast and very close to the ground and very close to each other which is challenging, but very fun still, but really the best part of the job isn’t the hands on flying, it’s the really cool community outreach stuff we get to do,” said Capt. Michelle Curran.

Northern Michigan’s News Leader is your number one spot for National Cherry Festival Coverage.

We’ll have live reports bringing you all the festival fun starting next Monday.
