TCAPS Superintendent Paul Soma Retires

Traverse City Area Public Schools Superintendent Paul Soma is saying goodbye to the district after 17 years.

Soma is retiring after spending the last five years as superintendent.

Monday night, TCAPS threw a party in his honor.

Soma is credited with launching the TCAPS International Program and also worked to bring business like efficiency into the public school system.

Soma says he’s thankful for the relationships he’s built in his time here and he’s pleased with the direction the district is headed.

“[I’m] totally honored to be part of this,” said Soma. ”I think my job’s done here and I think I hand the torch off to a wonderful person that’s coming in and…I believe it’s in a good spot.”

The former superintendent of St. Joseph schools, Ann Cardon, will take over as superintendent in August.
