Blood Drive Held at BMX State Qualifier Race

Some people who went to Sunday’s BMX race, also took the time to give back to the community by donating blood.

Versiti Blood Center of Michigan was there with a goal to get at least 14 donors.

All the blood donated through this center stays local.

Munson is among one of their main hospitals in which they ship to.

A truck started there in the morning and stayed through the races.

One volunteer says there is a great need for blood donations in the Traverse City Area.

“A lot of people in the hospital who are sick need blood. That is one of the biggest reasons and then it’s always healthy for you as a person to donate blood,” said Sam Magee, a volunteer.

Organizers of the BMX race say they appreciate the opportunity to be able to give back to the community.
