Senate Blocks U.S.-Saudi Arms Sales

In a bipartisan move, the U.S. Senate has blocked a push for arms sales to Saudi Arabia that is backed by President Trump.

Lawmakers voted Thursday to stop the White House’s attempt to expedite more than $8 billion in arms sales to gulf countries.

The vote is considered a symbolic move from lawmakers to show their opposition to the administration’s relationship with Saudi Arabia.

However, President Trump is expected to veto the package of resolutions and the senate does not appear to have enough votes to overrule a presidential veto.
