Classic Cars Cruise for Accelerate for the Cure Alzheimer’s Association Benefit

Drivers in Leelanau County cruised for a cure today to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

Classic car and sports car owners took a tour through town for the first ever Accelerate for the Cure event.

Each driver paid a donation and made stops at restaurants and sites throughout the scenic county.

The outing raised more than $22,000.

The funds are all going towards the Alzheimer’s Association to find treatment for the incurable disease.

“What we’ve discovered is that Alzheimer’s and dementia are present earlier than we previously thought, so we just have to stay vigilant to find a cure as soon as we can,” said Melissa Thompson, the regional director of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is coming to Petoskey September 14 and it will come to Traverse City on September 28.
