Second Annual Muskegon River Throw Down This Weekend

A weekend of canoe racing, music and more happening this weekend in Houghton Lake for the second annual Muskegon River Throw Down.

Nearly 80 paddlers are expected to participate, along with tons from the community coming out to cheer them on.

Friday is a community event with live music, food and drink specials at the Northshore Lounge and races, just for fun.

Saturday is when the competitions start with pro and youth races and a chance for those 18 and under to ride along with a professional for a race.

On Sunday, pro races will take place along with the amateur state championship.

“It’s an awesome event to have in the community. We’re going to bring in a lot of people from, not only Michigan, but surrounding states so it’s kind of our little niche in the circuit. It brings a little boost to the economy,” said Sean Brabant, president of the Muskegon River Throw Down.

Last year, they won race of the year for the Michigan circuit and hope to do that again this weekend.
