Philadelphia’s Historic Cocaine Bust: 16.5 tons

A historic drug bust in Pennsylvania.

Federal agents say they seized more than $1 billion worth of cocaine from a cargo ship in Philadelphia.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, law enforcement found 16.5 tons of the drug hidden in seven containers on a ship docked at the packer marine terminal.

The DEA says the ship was coming from Chile and traveled through Panama and the Bahamas.

Two crew members now face federal drug charges. They’re accused of helping load the cocaine onto the ship at sea.

It’s the largest coke bust in history in the eastern district of Pennsylvania, and the third largest in U.S. history.
