Gov. Whitmer Names June 19 ‘Juneteenth Celebration Day’
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a proclamation making Wednesday Juneteenth Celebration Day.
Juneteenth recognizes the day slavery was abolished in the U.S. 1865.
She says it is an important day and the state’s strength comes from its diversity.
Whitmer also says everyone must work together to make sure everyone can get ahead in Michigan.
