Cherry Capital Airport, Traverse City Light & Power Team Up to put Solar Panels at Airport
Renewable energy is set to take off at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City.
The airport and Traverse City Light & Power are working together to put solar panels on the property.
The land has been cleared to generate 10 megawatts of power, which is 1/7th of Traverse City Light & Power’s energy need.
Now, the utility is taking requests for proposals from developers to install the panels.
For the airport, the on-site renewable energy is a win-win situation.
“It’s an opportunity for tax revenue, for the city, reduced power costs and generation, it’s revenue for the airport, it’s a win for everybody,” said Cherry Capital Airport director Kevin Klein.
The solar panels will be installed in the spring of 2020 and up and running in the summer of 2020.
