Cherry Capital Airport Announces New Flights to Florida

Allegiant to add non-stop service in October

It’s a day of firsts for Cherry Capital Airport, with three new cities on the flight schedule. Traverse City’s airport is announcing three new, non-stop flights to Florida.

Allegiant Airlines will be offering the non-stop service starting in October. They’ll have twice weekly flights to Orlando, Tampa-St. Pete, and Punta Gorda-Ft. Myers.

The partnership between Cherry Capital and Allegiant is seven years in the making, according to Airport Director Kevin Klein. But the deal wasn’t finalized until last week. Allegiant will be using larger aircraft than many other flights at TVC, carrying up to 160 passengers on two different types of planes.

Kimberly Schaefer is the Director of Public Relations for Allegiant. She says, “We’ve seen pent-up demand in this market for those non-stop flights to those destinations in Florida. We see a lot of opportunity not just here in Traverse City but in northern Michigan and into Canada.”

Service to Orlando and Tampa will be year-round. The Punta Gorda flights will be seasonal.

Allegiant is the first low-cost airline to enter the Traverse City market.

Fares start at $69 each way for the first customers who book online by June 19th.
