Bethany Christian Services Helping Refugee Children in Northern Michigan

Bethany Christian Services in Traverse City is getting ready to recognize World Refugee Day later this week.

They currently have six refugee children living with foster parents in northern Michigan.

They’ve been working with refugee children since 2016.

These children typically flee to refugee camps where they are vetted for several years before being resettled.

The six children who now call northern Michigan home came from Africa and Central America.

“All of our children have suffered significant trauma, they’ve all suffered abuse or neglect. Some of our children have been victims of trafficking, some have witnessed their parents being murdered. To come here and to be placed in a safe and loving home, it’s life changing for these children,” said Branch Director Chelsea Hill.

World Refugee Day is June 20th.
