Families Celebrate 100 Years of Michigan State Parks at Mitchell State Park in Cadillac

Although the weather has not been perfect in Northern Michigan, it was still a great Saturday to get out to your favorite campground.

This weekend marks the centennial year for all Michigan State Parks.

To celebrate 100 years, Mitchell State Park in Cadillac held a fun-filled event.

People got the chance to step back in time and decorate their campsite to match their favorite decade.

There was also a raft regatta where participants built boats out of cardboard.

People at Mitchell State Park even got to check out some of the equipment the DNR uses daily.

“Obviously with the weather, it gets people down a little bit when it is rainy and wet and what not, but we lucked out. People really seem to be getting into it. There are a lot of kids building boats and we have had people at the touch a truck event,” said Ben Dietrich, the Mitchell State Park supervisor.

Saturday’s event for the whole family ended around 8:00 p.m.
