Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry Having New Ship Built

It’s a $4 million project for one Northern Michigan business, bringing an economic impact and a final product which will stay in the area.

Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry is having a new ship built to carry passengers to and from the island.

The ship is being built by Moran.

The new 210-passenger boat will be wheelchair accessible and will have four jet drives designed to provide a quieter, smoother, and faster trip.

The first piece of steel for the new ferry was cut Monday.

It’s scheduled to start operating in summer 2020.
