Osceola County Deputies: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Hit By Car

A 6-year-old boy died after being hit by a car in Osceola County Monday morning

Osceola County deputies say it happened shortly after 10 a.m.

The crash shut down M-66 north of U.S. 10 to 7 Mile Road for several hours, but it has since reopened.

Police are investigating exactly what happened leading up to the 6-year-old boy running across the street.

So far the sheriff’s office says two young boys were walking along the roadway when one of them darted across the street.

A car traveling south swerved in an attempt to miss the boy, but was not successful.

Police say the driver did all they could to avoid this tragic accident.

“It’s an accident that nobody expects. You always have to be on your toes. The driver that was involved in the accident saw the people on the road, he slow down, he got over and actually went over into the northbound lane to avoid striking anybody,” said Det. George Pratt.

The driver was not injured and neither was the other boy along the road.

Police are still investigating why the young children were alone along the road to begin with.
